Identity Leads to Destiny

Psalm 139:16

You saw me before I was born.

Every day of my life was recorded in your book.

Every moment was laid out

before a single day had passed.

This month, let’s continue to talk about identity.  Identity is the foundation to destiny.  How we see ourselves will ultimately dictate our thoughts, beliefs, actions, and decisions.  Knowing our identity in Christ is the foundation to achieving our God-given destiny.  The enemy wants to skew our identity so he can misdirect our destiny.  Satan knows that God’s will can only be found in the truth of His word, so he works overtime to keep us from believing God’s word, especially about ourselves.  If the enemy can get us to see ourselves as rejected, fearful, insecure, abandoned, or depressed, he knows that our decisions and actions will follow, shifting our life off course from where God has called us to be.  The enemy can also cause us to try to create an identity that says we don’t need the Lord, that we can handle life without Him and that somehow we can have a fulfilling life without Jesus.  These are all lies of the enemy to ensure that a wrong identity causes us to miss our destiny.

Psalm 139:16 says that the Lord has already laid out our destiny in the heavenly record books.  When we are in the will of God, our lives will align to His plan for us.  In Jeremiah 29:11, God says that He knows the plans that He has for us, plans to prosper us and to give us a hope and a future.  God knows the end from the beginning, and our quest in life is to yield to His perfect plan, which has already been crafted specifically for each one of us.  God’s individually crafted plan for us can only be known by revelation that comes from spending time in His word and prayer.  We know ourselves and our destiny by knowing Him.

There are moments in life where we may question who we are, why we exist, and what our purpose in life is.  The good news is that all of these questions have already been answered.  Acts 17:28 says that it is in Him we live, move, and have our existence.  Our purpose has already been established, and our fulfilment and peace is found as we live out our purpose in Jesus Christ.  Don’t let the enemy define who you are.  Don’t allow the enemy to move you away from what God has destined for you.  Believe what the Word of God says about you and seek God to find out His will for you.  God’s destiny for you is so special and so unique, that He will only share the fullness of it with you.  Even though He may use others to encourage you, to point you in the right direction, or even to let you know when you are straying from the path, the full revelation of who He created you to be is a divine gift, given to only you.

Set aside time this month to seek the Lord to restore your identity in Him and to lead you into His plan and destiny for your life.  God has a perfect plan for your life, a good plan, to give you a hope and a future.  That future is your destiny.  Remember, God saw you before you were born. Every day of your life was recorded in His book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.  God bless you.
